You’ve probably heard cues like “chest up,” “extend your upper back,” or “rotate your hips to generate torque.” For some trainees these cues work, but for many beginners they sound like a foreign language when learning to deadlift. Instead, use external cues. Unlike internal cues that describe what the body is doing in space, external cues point to the intended result or direction.
